Statement of Intention (First Blog)

Hey there, my name is Carel Anthony and I’m one of the several students who are taking ENG 2100. I transferred to Baruch this semester and before I got here, I went to New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). There, my AP scores were enough to count as direct credit to the course. Unfortunately, or fortunately, here at Baruch that’s not the case. When I decided to transfer to Baruch, I discovered this love towards finance, primarily accounting.

Over the summer, I took a position where I would help over 200 graduating seniors at a high school in Queens make the transition to make the transition from high school to their post secondary plan, primarily college. I worked closely with some guidance counselors from May to the end of June and throughout the summer, I filled the role of the same counselors I worked with, essentially replacing them over the last 2 months. Early on with that work I managed to find my purpose as a human on this planet. Once I fully committed to this thought, I realized, that I already transferred to Baruch, as a finance major. After doing some research and asking some who are already in the field, I was told I’ll need a masters in education or school counseling and obtain a license in order to be a guidance counselor. Additionally, I was told to take on an English minor to show interest in work ahead.

This class is a stepping stone for those I have ahead. As of now, Professor Gordon has done more than enough to help me excel. Clear, open and concise messages have been given. I understand what is expected of me and I plan to meet these expectations. I take 3 other classes this semester and I have a good chunk of time between each of my classes. I have google drive folders for each class I’m in and I write down due work each week and I refer back to that document often. With that being said, I hope to gain some connections from this class and I plan on sharpening my writing skills.
