Hi, my name is Fardeen Ahmed and frankly for this semester I intend to go to most if not all my classes’ meetings and pass each class.

For this English class, I’m aiming to become a better writer. It sounds vague, but I want my writing to be such that I’m personally having a conversation with the reader. When it comes to writing, I get so lost in the sauce that I overlook the simple mistakes, be it a grammatical error or a spelling error, or adding too many run-on sentences. Sometimes, I even divert from the main topic and write some nonsense, which is a bad habit of mine. I also overthink things while writing, with thoughts of what my next paragraph will look like when I haven’t even written out the first one. So, in this class I am most looking forward to the change in me as a writer.

Although this class is asynchronous, which gives us the time and flexibility some of us want/need, I’m afraid it would be too much for me. Whenever I’m given an assignment that isn’t due the same day, I tend to procrastinate till the very end. Once it comes down to doing the assignment, I become super lazy and even question if I should do it anymore. Another obstacle I can see myself facing is time management. I am the worst at managing my own time, I fail to prioritize what needs to be done first to last. So as the professor, I think having one-on-ones with students and having a check-in to see where each of us are at, and providing us with tips afterwards would be super helpful, for me at least. And if that is already something you, Professor Gordon, plan on doing then I don’t necessarily think there’s much to be done.

I’ve already started implementing a few of my goals, like setting reminders and alarms for when the class meets and when an assignment is due. But from this class as a whole, I want to see improvement in my writing, and this is where I start.

  1. Hey Fardeen,
We seem to relate on the whole procrastination thing, I have so much trouble using my time wisely as well. Great suggestions for the professor. It’s also good to see you implementing your goals this semester.

  2. Hi Fardeen! It seems like many people in this class, including myself, have a problem with procrastination. I would suggest that you start out by holding onto a planner, a small notebook, or you can even just use your Notes app in your phone, and write out the tasks that you have to complete for each week. Every Sunday, I would create a new list on what I have to get done for that week. It helps me feel more organized and also satisfied whenever I mark off something I finished. Hope this helps!

  3. Hi Fardeen,

I think you have a good, manageable goal for the semester. As long as you stick to your planner, you should be able to keep up with everything. My suggestion is to add start times as well as deadlines into your planner to tell yourself to get started on larger projects like essays, so that the due date doesn’t come upon you out of nowhere. I will do my best to check in on each student one-on-one, and you should also let me know, either after class on zoom, or via email, if you have a question or concern.
