George Floyd’s tragic death was not only a sad one but a reality check for everyone. No matter where someone was in the world they suddenly realized that what happened to Floyd was happening to their people within their country. People are seeing the problems of systematic and institutionalized racism and they are fighting to fix it. An example of a subtle realization of this was in the Netherlands. In the story it was said “We have less police violence” “but what you do see is a more institutional form of racism.” “As a lawyer, I came with my client at the court, and my client is a white older guy and the judge immediately started talking to him for the first two minutes until I interrupted the judge and said, “Hey I’m the lawyer that’s the client”. I don’t think the judge did it on purpose but that’s to show you how deep this is.” From hearing this you can say it doesn’t sound as bad as police violence but to know the whole system belittles minorities just shows how little they think of them. However, the people of Amsterdam are fighting the political system and were able to get an apology for the participation in the transatlantic slave trade.

An example of this was the 2018 U.S. gun protest after a series of mass shootings. There was a national walkout at exactly the same time to fight for the cause even if the protestors weren’t in school.People walked out of wherever they were at.To tie the two ideas together the gun violence activist were fighting for the freedom to feel safe and were being supported globally just as George Floyd’s death caused riots, and protest all across the U.S and other countries are seeing this which causes their people to be more motivated and fight for their rights. The world governments have no choice but to acknowledge what the people are fighting for and to answer to what they’re saying. Countries that are less violent like the Netherlands see that their people are fighting against racism and they want to avoid any violence as shown in the U.S from both sides, so they respond to their people. I believe this is why the prime minister didn’t refute the systematic racism and acknowledgment can be the start to a change.
