Within The NewYorker article the largest problem facing treating patients that are infected with the corona virus was the ratio of nurses to patients. There simply wasnt enough nurses with experience to treat the patients. Additionally Texas had a spike of infection rates because of relaxed safety measures taken by the public during the holiday. This just goes to support “the troops that matter most are ordinary Texans, who alone have the power to decrease infections by maintaining distance and wearing masks.” The people who choose not to wear mask and distance because it’s their personal choice make it harder to get back to normal, while the people who choose to do so are helping the problem. This can represented in the New York cases. New York had one of the highest infection rates in the U.S but because the people decided to follow proper precautions the numbers drastically dropped.Unlike in Florida where individuals chose not to and their numbers rocketed.Ultimately the choice of individual citizens has a great effect on everyone. Just as the choices of the individuals in Hotel Corona had an impact on their stay there.
The podcast “Hotel Corona” describes the experiences of people infectected with corona quarantined together while everyone else was quarantined away from each other. The podcast explains how the people in the hotel were able to come together despite their religious beliefs and make the best out of a bad situation. Being together in the hotel developed friendships that otherwise wouldn’t happen outside because of religious and cultural barriers and because of these friendships their became a new level of understanding. The people of different cultures then asked and discussed their beliefs and culture learning from eachother and becoming more aware of the other. This can be seen with the interactions between Ayesha and the jewish couple where they ask eachother questions out of curiousity and from that society has a lot to learn. If we just took interest in each other and learned about each other there would be a lot more understanding amongst us as people.
Hotel corona provided an unique situation that seemed to fix tensions between different groups and create a type of bondage. However Hotel corona was a small group of people forced to be with each other which does not leave much room for hope of similar success between those groups on the larger scale outside of hotel corona.
It nice to see people interact with personal beliefs. Even in a situation such as the pandemic, this would be an opportunity for people to interact with each by talking about certain things they have in mind. It is a fun experience to interact because you might make new friends and talk to each other sometime.
