From Nita Mosby‘s speech, there was the speculation of minority groups being suppressed for the longest and the groups that supported them being told that they were wrong for doing what they were doing. She additionally talked about how bystanders of injustices just stood by and kept quiet even if they were opposed to what was happening. This contributes to the delayed process of getting justice because of the lack of allies. I agree with her notion that we do better with allies. An example of this was in the George Floyd protest where there was a large turnout of people of other races that helped bring attention to the cause. Not only were there normal white people in the protest but also celebrities. Within the podcast, they talk about implicit bias about how there are subconscious ways of thinking that affect our choices. People tend to automatically respond without stopping to think.

The quote “Oftentimes, we don’t get involved with social justice issues that seem like they aren’t about us.” We watch what’s happening, and we care, but we don’t know how to get involved, or even if we should.” does spark some thinking. Especially since election day just passed. People were so worried thinking “My vote doesn’t matter” and “It won’t matter they didn’t participate in the voting, even though they should have. I also agree with it and relate it to my interpretation of the quote “closed mouths don’t get fed. I see it as if you have a problem and say nothing you will get no change. It doesn’t change my thinking because I have noticed it myself. Getting change is harder when you‘re not actively fighting, and instead of staying to the side. The results tend to be more significant when you put something on the line.

  1. It’s interesting that you talk about voting and how people don’t participate because they think their vote won’t matter or make a difference. I was actually having this conversation with someone before the election. Imagine if everyone had the same thought and didn’t go out and vote because of it. Surely THAT would have made a difference.
