Trevor Noah has a conversation on the daily show. In this conversation, he discusses the current events that have been going on in the United States. He says how these moments and these movements are all interconnected. Which is absolutely true. Although to the naked eye they may seem current and that these issues are new, they aren’t.In this conversation Trevor Noah mentions dominoes and how if one gets knocked down it creates a wave and this parallels to the movements that are happening in today’s society. How a society is supposed to be a two-way contract where the people in it and the people who govern it are all in agreement and provide a safe space for all. However, our society had failed us from the very beginning. I don’t just mean black people or minorities in particular, I mean all of us. It doesn’t only mean Black lives matter but it also means how the administration handled the pandemic. The government didn’t uphold their end of the bargain, so it’s citizens broke it off.
He mentions that there is no right way to protest because that is exactly what a protest is. To which I wholeheartedly agree with. Everyone tries to control the anger of those that the system constantly oppresses. They never fully realize that it is not their place to criticize how they choose to express their pain and agony over the many injustices that occur to them. In fact by telling them how to grieve and how to deal with this broken system you are implicitly allowing the system to fail them again. The fact that they aren’t even allowed to protest peacefully without them being villainized is insane. Like Trevor says there is no right way to protest because if there was then they wouldn’t be heard.
