I am without a doubt excited for my first year at Baruch and, anxiously waiting to see what’s in store at Baruch for me. My hope for this class is to become a more consistent writer and elevate my writing to what is college level and above. I’ve been working on my writing throughout the last year of high school and I want to develop it further to the point I make someone want to read more about whatever it is I choose to write about. One of my aspirations is to write captivating essays just as great authors do.

I’m looking forward to developing more organizational skills to make my writing more cohesive, as I tend to move on from the main point and deviate from the reason I write. In order to excel in this English class and future classes, I need to practice drafting and get into the habit of getting my writing reviewed by other people whether that be the professor, the writing desk, or fellow classmates. I also have to utilize the skills and tools that make writing easier such as outlines.

The only obstacles that I see that can possibly hinder me from doing well are my own work ethic as well as specified writing assignments. When I write about something that’s really interesting or a topic that I’m knowledgeable about, the writing process becomes significantly easier and I see it as more fun than as work.

My time management plan is to dedicate specific days to different courses and utilize the fact that I don’t have classes on Fridays to manage my asynchronous assignments. I also plan to do my work in advance and not wait until the last moment. Within any moment of free time between classes, I can use it to progress in some work and make everything manageable.  I look forward to learning not only from the professor but my classmates as well.

  1. Hi Steph,
I’m glad to hear you are motivated to imrpove your essay writing skills. Hopefully today’s lesson on the rhetorical triangle provided some fundamental tools for persuasion that you can use to get better.

Luckily, this class is designed to break up larger essay assignments into smaller segments, drafts, outlines, etc. so that it isn’t possible to procrastinate too much on the final. Between the class design and your own weekly planning, I think you’ll be able to do really well.

I also like what you said about learning from your peers as well as the Prof. absolutely! Everyone in the class has unique thoughts and life experiences that they carry into the room, and it’s great if we can all help each other learn.
