Speaking up is one the most effective ways of making change. So when it comes to racial injustice it’s no wonder why people are scared of speaking out. Because if they speak out they threaten the status quo, and then the status quo is threatened by change; people are scared because change is a very scary thing. Fear drives people. Fear drives people to form preconceived ideas because they don’t want to be hurt. After all fear from being hurt allows us to stay safe and prosper. But fear can also bring the biggest downfalls of humanity. Any intelligent investor will tell you not to pull your money out of investments before a downfall in the economy, instead opt to diversify your portfolio and hedge against risk. But then how come when people fear a reseccion, it happens? How come when a culture has been hurt, they turn to radical forms of hate. After all, the people of Germany were fearful for their future until a man came who told the public of a bright future…. At the end of the day fear is fear, the form it takes and how it’s dealt with is up to you. When Nita’s mother couldn’t find a dance school for her daughter, the fear within her made her angry and sad. Not the fear of racism. But the fear that her daughter will inherit a problem so much bigger than one individual. By going from school to school that fear showed her daughter Nita to not take no for an answer. In a way you can say that fear is why Nita has become such a leader in and Founder of The Equity Project. She’s a shining example of how fear can drive us to make strides in the uncertainty in the changing of the status quo.

For anything to work, persistence is key. Nita’s mother understood that and so have millions of others. Persistance causes change, sitting back doesn’t do anything.
Not only Nita’s mother feared that her daughter will inherit a problem, African Americans are also afraid of looking suspicious when they do something like go to a coffee shop or sit on a bench. They are concerned that police officers have racist biases and unfounded fears. I believe that finding a balance is not easy. But as you say, Nita is a great example of how fear can drive you to make strides and I wish the same happens to everyone.
