A social contract theory shows that members of some society have reason to endorse and comply with the fundamental social rules, laws, institutions, and/or principles of that society. The project James Baldwin undertook was to show a personal account of the lives and assassinations his closest friends. Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr were all in the film. I think he chose to discuss them because they were very motivational people. They also left an impact on the world and desired change. The film was very interesting for me. I hosted a movie night with my friends and we all watched it together. Most of the time I find historical movies boring but this one was rather interesting to watch. I learned from a person who was actually friends with these people and from a personal standpoint instead of like a teaching one. This movie makes me think about how some of the problems mentioned in the movie we still face today. There is still racism all around the world. There are still black people getting killed by the police. There are still protests being done for black lives. This is something that shouldn’t even be a problem anymore, in my opinion. There are still people who are getting their rights violated by the police just because of the color of their skin. Black people have come from being slaves, to being integrated, getting on tv shows, and being able to sit where they want to on the bus. However, this isn’t that should have been a goal for colored people to achieve. They should have already had it like everyone else. It makes me think about what a messed up world we live in and how I would not want to bring any children into this unfair world.

I like how you took this oppourtunity to watch the film with multiple people and have a chance to experience it together. I agree that this film is much different than a regular documentary on these people, it came from one person who had personal connections with each one and would talk about each one of them in an emotional way.
I like your perspective on the world and I would like to challenge it with my own. I feel that throughout history, we as humans have shown to be despicable and violent; it seems like this is something in our nature. However, I think that even though things seem harsh now, efforts to create equity amongst people in America have improved since the 1960s. We can only continue to work towards a world as close to perfection as possible.
