For this semester, I am looking forward to my first year in college. I am eager to continue with my first semester in college, and becoming more accustomed to this new way of learning. For this class in particular, I am looking forwards to strengthening my writing skills. In high school I had always enjoyed writing essays, whether it was personal or academic. Hopefully by the end of this semester, I will be able to learn some new strategies to become a better writer.
For this semester I can foresee myself becoming distracted from my work. I can see that college work is a lot more challenging than that of high school work, even though we receive a lot more downtime to complete our assignments. Since the first day of class, I have been trying my best to go over every class on BB to see if an assignment is due for the week, and writing it down in a journal. This helps me to stay as organized as I can during our online learning process. I wouldn’t want to forget about an assignment that was due, when I am trying to relax or am busy with other things.
As the instructor I feel zoom calls are helpful, because for me, they help to bring some livelihood into these online classes. I don’t want to think of my professors as some mysterious being passing me assignments from a computer screen. I would like to be able to see and interact with my peers and professors as much as I can; it helps me to come out of my own shell as well.
Again by the end of this course, I hope to gain a better understanding of what it means to be a college student, and I hope to grasp some more writing tips that I will be able to use for the future.
Hopefully I will be able to stay true to my word as best as possible, trying to keep up with all my classes and these blog posts.
Thank you for your time.
Definitely agree that although we have more down time in college its more challenging. Its only day 3 and the amount of work I have doesn’t compare in the slightest to what I had in Highschool on day 3.
Lorenzo,
I relate with being distracted from work. The whole “more free time” seems like a trap as it’s easier to procrastinate. I can already tell how we have much more work this time around.
I agree with your statement about writing down assignments from BB. Its very helpful with keeping track of what you have to do. I also definitely agree about the college work, its way more than what I’m used to getting in high school. It’s been overwhelming and I’m trying to keep up. Hopefully you can too.
Hi Lorenzo,
I think you’re getting off to a good start with writing down your weekly due dates. If I may make a suggestion, I would say to add in start dates to begin brainstorming or working towards longer-term projects. This will ensure that you are working toward major assignments with sufficient time along the way. It’s true that college can at first appear easier than high school, with all the time between classes and the reduction in mandatory activities. But let me tell you, the work will only increase as the semester wears on, so the best thing you can do for yourself is to stick with your time management plan. Good luck this term!
