I am looking forward to engaging with the various texts required for this course. I hope they will inspire me, enlighten me, and challenge my perspective. I am looking forward to getting back into the groove of writing out my ideas then later revising them. I am looking forward to reading my classmates’ thoughts and ideas then comparing and contrasting them to my own. I am looking forward to utilizing the Writing Center for the first time. I am now eager to receive their feedback so that I may continue to improve the quality of my writing. Most of all, I am looking forward to receiving boosts in my grades for meeting with the Writing Center. From this course I hope to gain new insights on the various topics we will examine. I hope I will come across words unknown to me so that I may expand my vocabulary. I hope to further improve and refine my ability to write eloquently with ease and confidence regardless of the type of paper I am writing.
The biggest potential obstacles I foresee for myself are becoming overwhelmed, lacking motivation, and lacking inspiration. As long as I am effectively managing my time and do not allow myself to procrastinate as extremely as I have done in the past, I will not become overwhelmed. I will effectively manage my time by sticking to the schedule I have devised for myself, altering it as needed. As long as I continue to prioritize my academic success and my health over everything else, I will not lose my drive to succeed nor my motivation to complete any necessary task. If I lack inspiration for any assignment I will do what has gotten me through many years of school, fake it until I make it. I will run with whatever nonsense I can come up with until it makes sense. As my instructor, you can help me excel by providing me with quality feedback on assignments. To me, quality feedback identifies specifically what was strong in my writing as well as what weakened my writing.
Those are great goals. Good luck.
Hi Ekaterina,
I enjoyed learning about your goals for the course and could definitely relate to your struggles about procrastination:). I am excited about the variety of media the course will be utilizing too, and I am happy to see that the topics are all extremely relevant to the age we are living in. Nice work and I look forward to reading your future posts!
Kristin
Hi Ekaterina,
I think you’re right that staying in control of your time is going to be the biggest obstacle for the semester (not just for you, but for everyone). Time management is somehow very difficult when we are all working remotely, so I think creating a weekly schedule that you can stick to, and including rest times, exercise times, and start times for longer-term projects will help.
I’m glad you plan to make use of the writing center also! The more perspectives you can get on a piece of writing, the better, so good for you. I will caution you to make your appointments with the writing center early, because as the semester progresses it may take up to two weeks to get an appt.
