In the New Yorker article, the author describes the largest problem in treating Covid-19 patients is being that there are too many patients, and not enough ICU nurses. The author explains how the nurse to patient ratio is usually 1:5, but for Covid-19 patients in the ICU, it is instead 1:2. With all of the patients there, there simply aren’t enough humans to care for each and every one of them efficiently. The individuals and medical community in Texas have handled it pretty well, considering their resources. They’re doing well on resources such as medical supplies, but they still don’t have enough nurses to make the ratio better for everyone. Individuals are doing their best, especially after the Texan governors risky reopening plan, which was stopped when a surge of cases occurred. Now, all adults in Texas are required to wear masks in public, so here’s hoping they will.
Citizens’ individual choices greatly affect the pandemic, especially in high populated regions, such as New York City or LA. There are some people here and there that don’t want to wear a mask or social distance, and this creates problems fro everyone. Simply one person not wearing a mask, or one small group hanging out in Times Square (not social distancing) can lead to an exponential increase in cases. There have been many debates recently on how masks affect our freedom and independence. People claim that because they have the freedom and independence to do whatever they want, they have the right to not wear a mask. I personally don’t think this is right, as we need to think of humanity as a whole, and what’s best for us to make it through this.
For the most part, the individuals and subgroups in Hotel Corona in Jerusalem came together. Even though they came from all different places, they all had one thing in common, and that brought them together. The main thing I learned from this podcast is that even though we come from different walks of life and have different beliefs, we should still come together to do whats right for the future. This may be hard, but with enough effort, it’s possible.
One thing that always hinders peace or understanding is the past. Making peace between Arabs and Jews is possible but the hardest part would be dealing with the past struggles. Is it possible? It could be but it will be INCREDIABLY hard. This is the nature of humanity.
I agree that there should more doctors and nurses in hospital. States should pay attention to health because they will help people protect them from any disease. This also goes to the entire world because people should be healthy for a future that is ahead of them. If more countries invest more money on health, then there would be a solution for keeping the world healthy.
