I have never personally referred to my English classes in the past to be one of my favorite classes mainly due to books or any type of literature that just don’t make sense to me or I outright dislike them. But when it has come to particular circumstances where i find a book interesting and it captivates me I mostly enjoy brainstorming, thinking, and discussing about the parts of the book and the idea presented within them.
With that being said I do like writing once I get the ball rolling and It feels natural just putting words onto a paper almost as if it was me ranting to a person. So i am looking forward to finding new ways to express on paper when comes to any situation and enhancing the sophistication I can present on paper.
I definitely do see obstacles i can run into through this semester such as keeping up with the work load and being more responsible when comes to remembering assignments, giving myself enough time to do assignments, and to not burn myself out in general.
While being a full time student for the 13 or so years of my life I can say I do like teachers who makes the class feel more open in the sense that answers are not necessarily wrong as long as you can prove your thinking. To add on to that I do like teachers that also push to bring out captivating conversations and discussion within the class which in my opinion makes the class feel more connected as everyone opens themselves up in contributing their own thoughts and ideas. I think once people open up in that sense it gives a window into a person’s mind and heart.
I plan manage school life and out of school life by making it a priority to be organized and very open about my schedule to everyone in my life. Use the privilege of all the free time that I have to make sure I do my work the best i possibly can and internalize the information more.
Hi Brady,
I wonder if you had spotted anything(text/video/podcast) that interests you from our weekly schedule? I personally enjoyed listening to the podcast Hotel Corona and I was glad to see Prof. Gordon chose it as course material. And I have similar experiences as yours when it comes to classes: I enjoy courses with an encouraging atmosphere, where everyone feels psychologically safe to speak their minds and respect each other’s point of view despite having different opinions. So far I like our class quite a lot and I look forward to learning something from everyone this semester.
Cheers,
Kristin
I am glad you feel more open in this class. I hope that you won’t be afraid of talking more often class. Keep up with the classwork as much as you can because I know you will succeed in this class. Overall, best of luck in doing well not just in class, but college in general.
Hi Brady,
So far you have been an active and lively class participant, and I look forward to that continuing over the course of the semester. I always try to encourage open discussion rather than right or wrong questions—I too find it most interesting to hear different people’s perspectives on a given situation.
One suggestion I have for your weekly schedule planning is to put in start dates as well as due dates for larger assignments, so you can have plenty of time to work on essays and not feel like the deadlines are creeping up on you. I also recommend adding in rest and exercise times to your planner to make sure you get outside and have some free time to truly not worry about school. These two things can go far in helping prevent burnout and feelings of overwhelm.
