EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE

I recently came back from Mallorca Spain a few days ago We were down there for five days. Beyond the beautiful and dreamscape scenery, Europeans are not the most welcoming bunch. It started when we arrived in Dusseldorf(Germany) and I began noticing the constant gawking and staring from the Germans alike. At first, I paid it no mind but as we continued our stay there, it was obvious, they were not used to seeing an African American in this part of the world-so close to them anyway.

I couldn’t wait to board the plain and move onto Spain, so for what it was worth, I had more of an enjoyable time looking at the various air carriers than interacting with those around me. Spain was no different. During the entire trip, we must have met only two -max three persons/couples that seemed inviting. Not really too sure what it was but it was very obvious we were the odd man out. During my last days there and especially returning back to Germany, I stared mostly at the ground to avoid looking at their zombie like faces. It left a very bitter taste in my mouth and will never be forgotten. Buyer be ware-there is still hate and racism left in that part of the world amongst other places. I do not speak for their entire race because that would be ignorant of me. But I know what we saw and how we felt. It was very obvious that the relationships would remain at a distance. At various points some of them even snarled at us while waiting in the outdoor bars. The hired help had vague expressions on their faces and I did nothing to calm them but take my change and leave them with an empty saucer-tip for what? Back to Jamaica I go. They have open arms there…..
