Hey everyone! BigRed8013 here with a review of Gears of War: Judgment’s Call to Arms DLC pack. Call to Arms is the first content release that is apart of the VIP Season Pass offering, and was released on April 23rd. The Season Pass retails for $19.99 and offers two DLC packs ($12 separately), early access to DLC packs, in-game character & weapon skins, and exclusive access to double experience multiplayer matches. Back to Call to Arms, the pack includes three new maps for multiplayer modes and introduces a new mode called Master-at-Arms. The mode is a take on what some may call gun game, which is a player starts (usually) with a small weapon. They gain kills to switch to better weapons and after a player has successfully killed another with every gun in the game, they win. Two of the maps are for the traditional game types (TDM, Execution, FFA, Domination) while the third is for Gears’ new mode Overrun. Of these maps, long time Gears fan’s will be elated to see that there are remakes of maps from older games included. We see the return of Terminal, remastered and redefined as this map has been transformed to be played in the Overrun game type. The next is a Gears 2 classic, Blood Drive. Blood Drive finds you fighting through Halvo Bay Memorial Hospital in heated close quarters battles as well as explosive combat within its courtyard. There have been some major upgrades to the look and feel of the map as new hallways and scenery were added, which diversified the combat zones. The last map included in Call to Arms was Boneyard. Boneyard pits teams against each other amidst a cold and desolate graveyard. From Mausoleum to Ossuary, players battle over the graves of their fallen comrades in arms, vying for victory. Also included in the Call to Arms pack were ten new achievements to increase the games maximum gamer score value to 1250G.
Overall, the Call to Arms pack has brought back great gameplay as well as memories with the remakes of Blood Drive and Terminal. The series even added a fresh new way to play with Master-at-Arms. With innovative and fresh content that is aligned with what the fan base wants, Gears of War: Judgment has redefined the series. With the sneak peak that Haven offered to the excitement of Call to Arms, its hard to not want the next pack already. As a result I would give the Call to Arms pack a 8.5/10. A video will be included below showing gameplay footage of Blood Drive and Boneyard (Terminal to be coming soon).
