Joseph Bekar- Intro

Hello Class,

My name is Joseph Bekar and I am currently a senior at Baruch College. I am hoping to graduate this summer while majoring in Entrepreneurship and minoring in Psychology. My favorite book is Dale Carnegie’s “How to win friends and influence people”. In it Carnegie gives different tools on how people should interact with others on a daily basis. During my time not working or in school i enjoy helping out with various community charities as well as playing sports and hanging out with friends.

While Reading Jay’s text there were a couple of parts that confused me:

“As for Homogenization and agency there are no such things as pure, autonomous cultures that are not “contaminated,” as Kwame Appiah puts in, by productive contact with other cultures. Indeed, “Homogenization” has emerged as something of a false villain in debates about globalization, in that similarity or uniformity is as much done undone by contact with other cultures as it is enforced by it.”

What confused me about these two sentences was the idea of Homogenization as right off the bat i didn’t understand the concept. after doing some more research i had a brief understanding but it still didn’t allow me to understand the passage better.
