If Financialization really does creep into the everyday, than it must creep into what (and who) we consider to be sexy. I wonder, has there been a financialization of sexuality? What would that even mean? Maybe online dating services are one dimension of this… and just yesterday a friend was telling me about a website where men rate the escorts that they’ve paid for… but the question still remains – what makes these things related to the logic of financialization specifically?
I agree with Rob. She’s not all that.
But moving on…
Today I was thinking about slavery and the condition of the poorer classes in the US…then I thought about our discussion of financialization; specifically how everything is now becoming financialized, whereas it had only controlled a smaller portion of the world back in the day. Then I thought about Imperialism and the actual causes of World War 1 and 2.
I know it seems like I’m ranting but I’m getting to the point.
The real cause of World War 2 was the constant debate over who controlled what territory in Africa. The new world powers were “coming up” and wanted a piece of the pie. Africa is rich in many resources and Japan is not….so they wanted a piece themselves. I just had a quick thought….Is war becoming financialized? Was it always financialized?
Africa, the Caribbean, South America etc, were they all treated like stocks when they were colonies? Are the countries dependent on foreign powers(neo-colonialism) still being treated like stocks in a market? Thoughts?
Just a thought I had. If I have this all wrong please by civil…:)
definitely the financialization of war and empire is a GReAT topic to think about… there is lots about this sort of thing – and its really important to understand…. from the way the US uses financial power to control other parts of the world, to the increased use of mercenary for profit troops….
anyway – I can give you some leads if you wanted to think about this for your paper…
