It’s an Obama-rama!

Virtual cries of joy flood internet social networks and fill text message inboxes almost immediately after Barack Obama’s historic victory.

Facebook, a web-based social network, was overrun by Obama-based messages following his victory.  People were overjoyed by his victory and showed their excitement through their status messages, a brief message used to update your friends on your life.

“In celebration for dinner, I’m gonna make mashed potatoes in the shape of PRESIDENT Obama!” wrote one avid New Yorker.  Meanwhile, a Floridian wrote that she was “celebrating this historic moment… THANK GOD FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA!”

So overwhelmed with the amount of messages regarding the presidency, one SUNY college student wrote, “(Status that is NOT about Obama winning goes here.

This fervor hit another social network, too.  The essence of Obama was felt over Myspace.

Americans all over the country changed their profile pictures to something related to Obama.  Some people used the red, white, and blue painting of Obama with the words “HOPE” or “PROGRESS” sprawled across the bottom.  Others chose to use various pictures of Obama and the First Family.

People changed their profile names, as well.  Phrases like “Obama Won,” “My President Is Black,” and “Yes We Did” could be found all over cyberspace.

Even the music on people’s profiles reflected Barack Obama.  A producer by the name of Mr. Instrumental created the “Obama Beat” which features the voice of our president.

The Internet wasn’t the only place that saw a swarm of Barack Obama supporters.  Text messages were sent all across wireless networks.

People all across the country forwarded election-related jokes to their friends.  While some were less tasteful than others, the text messages still reflected how excited people were by Obama’s win.

“They didn’t want to give us 40 acres and a mule,” said one text. “So we decided to take 50 states and a white house.”

It definitely is Obama-rama. One of my faceboook friends had this as her status: “Rosa Parks sat so that Martin Luther King could walk. Martin Luther King walked so that Obama could run. Obama’s running so that we all can fly.”

I couldn’t agree with you more; before the election, I’ve received text asking to go to the polls from random numbers & after the election, more text came rolling in. It just shows how big this event is but I couldn’t help but notice that after that the next day became just another normal day.
