Every third Thursday of the month Bronx Community Board 9 holds a public meeting so any business pertaining to the district can be addressed. In March, the board held its meeting at the district office at the Shops at Bruckner Boulevard; across from K-Mart and next GNC. In the upstairs office packed with enough chairs fit 40 people in a room probably made for less.
Once the meeting commenced, speakers where given three minutes to state any business they wished. A representative of the 2010 Census Board discussed a few changes that have been made to the new Census and asked that we all do our part to help make this upcoming Census as accurate as possible. We should assist others who have trouble filling out the form. The form will now only be one page.
Also addressing the district was one of the local firefighters. He went up to remind everyone about the importance of checking your carbon monoxide alarms. He said the battery should be changed almost evey month and the actual alarm should be changed every six months. With age, the time in which the alarm detects a problem decreased. Carbon Monoxide is ordorless, colorless, and tasteless. We will never see it coming unless an alarm is set. This is an issue that should not be taken lightly. Spare batteries were given to the attendants before leaving.
