Response to NY Times article “Plane Crash Inquiry Pauses for Somber Visit”

The NY Times article regarding the recent plane crash in Buffalo, featured in Tuesday’s “New York” section, left me feeling diconnected and bewildered. While the article’s title highlights the visiting relatives, as do both of the accompanying photographs, there is no more than a slight mentioning of those who perished. Rather, the article focuses on lots of technical plane data and theoritcal crash statistics–all the while, the cause of this particular crash remains unknown. The author employs clunky technical lingo and tries to explain the scientific properties of planes, and ice, and planes traveling in ice, but only briefly, neither educating the reader or filling him with a feeling to further explore the complex nature of weather and air travel. Additionally, the author only tangentially discusses the future of aircraft production, a rather interesting and seemingly practical point to explore.
