Business Opens in Spite of Recession

The Bar at Billy Sunday

While many businesses are closing due to the current state of the economy, a new restaurant opens in Prospect Lefferts Gardens.  Billy Sunday’s opened on January 16, 2009 at 47 Lincoln Road.
Walking into Billy Sunday’s feels like stepping out of Brooklyn and walking what I would imagine a saloon to look like.  The prices are recession friendly (with prices starting at $3.00), and their menu includes staples such as fried Macaroni and Cheese and Dirty Rice.  “People aren’t going to want to stop going out because of the recession, so we’re an affordable option,” says Drew Ridina, a server.
Billy Sunday’s has also created jobs within the community, which is great considering that the unemployment rate in New York City has increased to 7.0 percent as of December 2008, according to the New York State Department of Labor.
Additional details about unemployment in New York City can be found at http://www.labor.state.ny.us/pressreleases/2009/Jan22_2009.htm.
