Tuesday evening, a fire started in the Crown Fried Chicken restaurant destroying the store and damaging apartments and causing traffic delays, on Hillside Avenue in Jamaica, Queens. Five fireman were injured according to the deputy chief.
The fire which started at 4:19 pm according to fire officials, destroyed the restaurant and spread upwards to the second and third floors. No civilians were hurt according to police, but five firefighters were according to Paul Ferro, Deputy Chief of Division 13 Fire Department of the City of New York. He stated that one fire firefighter’s ear had been burned and four had cuts and bruses.
The windows had been broken of the apartments and tenants were taken out of the burning building, which was covered with thick black smoke. Ferro said it was a two alarm fire, meaning there were fifty fire men on site. As for the tenants they will be temporarily placed by Red Cross stated fire officials.
Walking out of the 180th street subway the damages along with road closers, fire trucks and police cars were visible.
According to the owners the fire was started in the back of the restaurant due to faulty welding. Fire officials explained how the fire started and spread upwards through a pipe and braking off the cockloft, which is located between the roof and ceiling, of the third floor.
One worker stated, “all damaged, everything destroyed” he also said how there were no customers at the time of the fire. According to the restaurant’s attorney, Richard DeBrosse, ” The welder came, they took a break and that was it they fled the scene.”
The owner’s younger brother was overlooking the crown fried chicken restaurant. After fire fighters had put out the fire he stood there in front of Susan B. Anthony elementary school which is next to the restaurant staring with his wide open with unbelief, at the burned down, broken windowed, blackened building. DeBrosse said “it’s his brother’s store. I don’t know if he’s in a good emotional state.”
The owner‘s brother said looking down to the floor with a big sigh, “it was meant to happen, at least thank God, no one got hurt”

Oh, I was yhere. There was a delay in the bus schedule. It took me an hour and a half to get home. I was totally exhausted with extra STRESS on my shoulder because I had a math exam today.
Why is it so hard for the MTA to turn a profit? Since I have moved to New York in 2001 the only noticeable difference I have seen in the subways are the led signs on the L line, the elimination of tellers, the elimination of the token, and the fare hikes up to soon to be $2.50. I remember when the MTA was caught a few years ago keeping two sets of books, one to display to the public and the media, and the others a secret version showing the MTA had a surplus of cash. So where does all of the MTA’s money go? In this new economy can we continue to fund this type of ruthless corruption? If your answer is no contact you representative. It only takes a few minutes to jot off an email your local congressman and senator by emailing you can do more in a few minutes that years of complaining to people that cannot do anything about it…
