A video showing who and what makes up my New York: photos taken mostly by myself (and a few by friends) of my friends, family, activities, architecture, food, etc…
The video is a letter in response to one of the character (a woman) mentioned in one of Charles Reznikoff’s poem from By the Well of Living and Seeing and The Fifth Book of the Maccabees (New York: Charles Reznikoff, 1969).

Hey. This is my first time making a video. Hope it’s not too choppy. 🙂 Making this video was kind of hard because it took longer than I thought it would. It was also hard to get people to be willing to be in the video. Since I wanted the video to be longer, I asked if it was okay for me to film them without revealing their faces.

This digital essay reflects how the music scene has changed over the years. Through the images, I tried to portray what life was like in New York City during the 1960s. The video transitions into New York City today. After that, it transitions back to the 1960s. The last transition shows how we must return to the music scene from the 1960s. I tried to portray through my thesis that the music today cannot be compared to the 1960s and that jazz is music with soul and heart, different from music of today.

Here it is. Maybe not great, but the greatest I could do.

This was indeed more time consuming than I thought but I got it done.
Ok so this is my Digital essay. I used the program “Windows Movie Maker” , or atleast thats what it was called when I was in high school. Apparently now it’s called “Windows “Live” Movie Maker”. This is my second time ever using the program but I pretty much had a memory of how it worked, or so I thought. It seems that over the years, the program has been incorporated with Windows Live Messenger. Anywayz, my idea was pretty simple but I had a pretty rough time matching up the audio with the images. But at the end of the day I got it down and that’s all that really matters. I think I did a pretty decent job on it.
I hate Imovie or youtube for consistently mis-sycning my audio. Visually the digital essay has great quality and I put a lot of thoughts into the monologue I present during it. It really bothers me that the audio got messed up though.
Here is my Digital Essay. Hope you like it!!!

Sara Teasdale wrote this poem because she felt that she could not attract a man’s love. It shows how she wants to tell her lover she likes him but she cannot. She was jealous of girls who were brave enough to flaunt their sexuality to guys without caring about the consequences. We often see guys as aggressive in this society but she was jealous of the girls who would take the first step.
I had a great time on this project. It gave me the opportunity to showcase my poem in my viewpoint. I had first hands on experience in editing a video, cutting scenes, filming to depict my thesis. I loved creating dialogues, re-taking some scenes and adding music to combine them. I believe part of this enjoyment was due to my poem because I fell in love with my poem from the beginning. I believe it had such a good thesis and it is a poem that I could have taken it so many different ways. I think this was such a great opportunity to showcase our creativity. At first, I was camera shy, but then I was like “screw this,” I decided I wanted to be in the video.
