Welcome!
Welcome to my website.
I am Xiaofeng Huang, a freshman at Baruch College. I believe that I am a person who can adapt to a new environment quickly and are willing to take actions for achieving my goals.
Looking back at my previous life, I was so surprised because I never imagine the path of my life will be changed. I, a traditional Chinese girl, had lived in China for 18 years. However, everything had changed since three years ago when I flew to the United States with my family.
In strange surroundings with an unfamiliar language, I did not know how to support myself at the very beginning especially about my college study because I already had finished high school in my country. Besides, I was over 17 years old; according to the education regulation of New York City, students do not qualify to enroll in public high school over 16-year-old. Therefore, it was impossible for me to go to a regular high school. As a result, I wasted my time watching TV, eating, and sleeping during that period. Furthermore, my relatives always joked that I was getting fatter and fatter.
Later, I found the I was unable to communicate with my cousins due to language obstacle. What made me feel bad and uncomfortable was that instead of joining them, I only could stand aside. Gradually, I blocked myself, which drove me to a worse and worse situation. Honestly, I had ever secretly sworn to start learning English and not to be decadent; however, I did not know how to start it. I was thinking that since I was afraid to speak English with a familiar person, then I could learn when communicating with other unfamiliar English speakers. Even though I had a solution, the next problem was coming soon which was where I could find them. Coincided with the time that my classmates were looking for jobs, I knew working in foreign companies was a good choice. Therefore, I was eager to join them. I consulted them a lot about their experiences and spent much time looking for related information about how to get a job and interview. However, I gave up quickly because I feared and believed that I would fail.
One day, I did not know what happened to me, but I only knew my feet led me to a clothing store to apply for the salesperson position without too much thinking and hesitation when I saw the recruitment information in the window. Luckily, I got the job. I was so excited because it meant that I achieved the first step of my plan to practice spoken English. From then on, I realized that as long as we were willing to take the first step, the opportunity would come to you. Then, I became a president of the Performing Arts Club in transfer high school and graduated from there as salutatorian.
Now, I am planning to major in Actuarial Science at Baruch College. I hope I can be a braver and braver person, realize my value in college, and achieve my goals one by one.
