RiP: A Remix Manifesto Respond

After watching Remixer’s Manifesto I had a strong identification with one of the quotes. He mentioned that “ Culture is always based on the past”. I agree with this statement, we always think that the innovations we see in modern times are new, but people overlook that these innovations come from the past, whether it’s in movies, music, or technological developments, we can see that many of the modern works have borrowed many elements from the past. Another interesting point mentioned in the picture is that “the past always tries to control the future”, whether it be history, culture, laws, the rules of the past have an impact on our future. For example, the song “Happy Birthday” is supposed to belong to everyone, but because of copyright laws, it can’t be used freely in all situations. This makes me wonder if excessive copyright protection will limit innovation and the spread of culture, as many authors are unable to create freely in the digital age due to copyright issues. This limits more cultural development. Remix culture is of particular interest to me, after all, many of the works on social media platforms are reconstructions of past works and not entirely original, so I’m looking forward to being able to add my own ideas to the past in order to achieve secondary innovation!
