In my first potential source, Douglas discusses the future of museums. He stresses the point by currently living in a digital age, we are more prone to gravitate toward interactive mediums instead of visual ones. He argues that as technology develops, museums must adapt to the rapid changes and reconstruct their structures and exhibits to meet the evolving demands of us, the viewers. Douglas touches on the point that technology “seizes our brains only to scatter them.”(Carr) by highlighting some measures taken by museums to adapt to technology. He uses the example of the renovation of the Brooklyn Museum to modernize it as well as give more choice to the viewer. He brings examples of museums that open up smaller branches in other parts of the city to supplement their main branches (think Moma’s PS 1) for those who have shorter attention spans.
I think that this article has some “juicy meat” for me to use in developing my thesis. I am a bit doubtful that it is not so current (published in 2006) however I will see where it takes me.
The second article I came across, Art History and the Digital World focuses on a conference of speakers in Los Angeles. The speakers spoke about all issues belonging to the art and digital worlds including digital libraries, digital editing, digital archives and more. They also touched upon how the digital world enhances the art world by offering supplemental  information on artwork, helps us archive works better, makes art more accessible etc. After skimming this article and glancing over some of the topics, I decided to narrow my research topic and steer myself in a more focused direction. For my “digital essay,” I would like to explore the positive effects of the digital world on art-how accessible art comes to all members of society because of technology’s emergence and how technology enhances the art experience.
