The design of this one was what caught my eye in the beginning. After that I looked this up to get the information above and found it interesting that this book was sewn bound and also had a paperback cover. The cover where it says “HERE” is what really caught my eye. It felt like it was telling me “here is where you should start” for this assignment.

2) William Short, Willa Seidenberg
A Matter Of Conscience
Andover, MA: Addison Gallery of American Art. 1991

Dimensions (Height x Width x Depth): 27 x 27 cm.
Cover: Paperback
Binding: glue bound
Process: offset-printed
Color: black-and-white
Edition size unknown
Signed: Unsigned and Unnumbered

This kind of publication is something I am used to seeing. When I say that I am talking about pictures of military men and also the way the book was bounded. It was bound by glue which was how most of my books from high school were bound. After checking online I found the synopsis and found the last sentence interesting when it said “This simple approach tenderly displays how these men and women have been affected by war, as well as their strong opposition to it.” It made me think about how men and women in today’s society feel about the current wars being fought.

3) Brad Freeman
Mzlk.: the Tours
Muzelink
New Haven, CT: B. Freeman. 1997

Category: Book

Dimensions (Height x Width x Depth): 29 x 23 cm.
Cover: Partial
Binding: sewn bound
Process: offset-printed
Color: color
Edition 100
Signed: Signed and Numbered

This is another sewn bound book that caught my eye just because of the way the writing on the cover was displayed. At first I thought it was something that looked like a type of graffiti so I got curious as to check out what this really was. When I found out this book was also sewn bound I thought about how much of a difference it makes when something is sewn, glued or stapled on.

4) General Idea
Mixed Metaphors : A Treatise On Glamour
New York, NY: General Idea. 1975/2006

Signed: Unsigned and Numbered

This is the first stapled bound display I had seen that caught my eye. The picture and title “Mixed Metaphors” was what I liked about this. It was mostly black and white and usually things that are in those colors do not catch my interest.

5) Michael Corris, editor
New Observations. No. 63 (December 1988) From the Pandemonium of the Studio to the Order of the Showroom: The Dangers of Tourism
New York, NY: New Observations Ltd.. 1988

ISBN: 7375387

This is another staple bound book had caught my eye which had a lot of visual art. The use of different shades of pink was something that looked kind of weird to me. I guess that is what made me want to add it to this list.

6) David Horvitz
Bums in the Sun. Vol.2 [High Places/Soft Circle/Lucky Dragons CA Tour Summer 2007]
Los Angeles, CA: Glaciers of Nice. 2007

Pages: [20] p.
Dimensions (Height x Width x Depth): 7.5 x 10 cm.
Binding: loose leaves

Color: color

I really found this one interesting because of the title. It’s just a bunch of loose leaves and I really found that weird. The previous subjects that I have encountered had something to bind them together and these were just loose pieces of paper.
