EAB
November 19, 2009
I went to the EAB book fair last year for fun. It was at a different place. Last year, there seemed to be more space even though it was just one hallway (“The Tunnel”). This year’s space feels a lot more cluttered, but there were still some great stuff to see.
The first thing that caught my attention was a series of 29 digital archival prints by Susan Silas. Published in 2009, 11 x 16 3/4 at $10,000. It is called “A Bird from Ellen’s Yard”. It has a simple design. Just one image on each page. The imagery is very strong. It goes from a bird on the ground to the same bird rotting until you see just the skeleton. It was very disturbing at first, but I couldn’t take my eyes away.

“Where Ends Meet”
Set of two screen prints with hand-applied rhinestones on four ply museum board, 2007
Signed and numbered edition of 20
$11,000
There are a few pieces I liked that were not books. I liked this because it was “pretty”. There was one with a portrait of Oprah made of rhinestones. It takes a lot of work to do something like that so I was interested.

“Utopian Bands”
6 relief prints
Edition 10/20
Mark had went to China for a concert and made these prints in all red and white. I think it is a bold piece.

“Torayan’s great Adventure”
First edition, superior binding, 2007
$50
This book was bright and yellow and had an interesting cover, so I had to go touch it. The inside had pencil drawings and photographs based on a cartoon character in Japan. I don’t know this character though. There was also a giant figure of the character. It was a fun table.
Shigeru Moroizumi
C 1981-2002, 2002
$40
Perfect binding
I love the cover of this book. There was a foam board glued to the cover with another plastic piece on top of that. Inside the foam was a thermometer. This book showcases the works of this artist that involves thermometers. The things he did with the thermometers were so interesting.
