Printed Matter
1. Fierce Pussy. Fierce Pussy Toilet Paper. 2nd Edition. New York, New York 2008.
Price: $50
This piece was not a book, but it was full of text… on a roll of toilet paper! Just a “regular” roll of toilet paper with lots and lots of text, typewriter style, I couldn’t really read what it was saying, but it was very interesting. It made me wonder how they printed text on such delicate texture and how tedious it was to make that. It definitely caught my attention with its individuality. And expensive… for toilet paper
2. Ase Eg Jorgensen. Udflugter I Havana. Havana 2005. Space Poetry. 2009. ISBN: 87-7603-056-3
Price: $20
This book caught my attention when I saw it sticking out of the bookshelf with it’s binding stapled. It has a dark navy color. I wanted to do something like this for my project so this particular book caught my attention. The inside pages were glossy and they were folded and doubled up and full of picture.
3. Paul Chan. Untitled: after a Dialogue Between a Priest and a Dying Man. New York, New York. Printed Matter Inc. 2009 Edition. 3 of 12. Signed and Numbered. Edition A/P 3/3.
Price: $850.
This was by far the most expensive piece of art that I’ve seen. What caught my attention was the beautiful inscription on the blade, “NeeSpee NeeMetu”. The font that was used looked really nice. It looked really elegant on the knife. The title was also very intriguing. It makes me wonder why the author chose to use this as the title of his artwork. There was also a piece of cloth that was next to the knife. I wonder if it was used to wrap the knife or was there also writing in it.
4. Robin Cameron. Etagene-En-Valise. New York, New York. R. Cameron 2009. Stapled book style.
Price: $500
There were 10 little books one display. They all had staples on the side to keep them together, except the biggest one which was binding with a cloth at the side with “perfect binding”. The colors captivated me. I really liked these design of the covers, it made me wonder what little secrets those little books held. The covers had a very attractive blue cover.
5. Lori Christmastree. A Tale in two parts. 1983. Handmade. Accordian Style. Made with construction paper. 453/500
Price: $6
This accordion fold was so adorable. It was cut in figure of a little girl. When I first saw the publication I thought it was something about the book, “a tale of two cities” but instead there were two lines, one on the front, one of the back. One side said, “if I was a bad girl my mother got a migraine”. And on the other side it said “if I was a girl, my mother hung me on the wall”.
6. Andy Worhol. “Uh Yes, Uh No”. Wu-Shan Inc. & Primary Wave Music Publishing. Visual Artist Recording.
Price: $40
“What CD case cost 40 dollar,” I thought, when I first saw this. Well apparently this one does cause I was shocked to see the price one this. Sure it was an aluminum casing, but that was still very expensive for something so simple. The cover was very simple with “uh yes.. uh no..” repeating over and over again. The design was simple and clean, which is what caught my attention.
