I used InDesign to create the whole thing. The concept of the book, as it mentioned on the book, this book is served as a catalog for people who are interested in this kind of filed, and if they like it then they can go through the website for more detailed information. I tried to have as many as illustration on each pages with the titles. There are also some short description of each different illustrators.

I only have the right to use all these illustration on the project, therefore, I won’t be able to provide the link on Blurb for anyone to purchase it. And please do not download any of the content on this. Thank you.

(2)   Book Title: Seascape – one location 1999-2000

Author: Rebate Aller

Price: $50

The book form is landscape. It’s like the photo project we did in the class, it has the photos on the center of the page. I believe the photos are all taken oat the same location, though I didn’t ask them. It’s very interesting to see how a same locations different through time and weather.

(3)   Book Title: Fraught

Author: Roger Ballen

Price: 80

Roger Ballen is a black and white photographer who lives in Africa ( the person for the stand told me). The book is really huge. After open it, on the left side it has a real photo that took by the author. On the right side is a big hole with a really book in it. The book is the collection of the works by Roger Ballen, and also has descriptions with photos.

(4)   Book Title: A small thermometer into the cover

Author: Shigeri Moriizumi

Price: 45

The cover of the book has a real thick panel with a small thermometer on it, and the panel is covered by a transparent paper. The content is all kinds of thermometer with different shapes and combinations. Also has some words to explain the concepts.

(5)   Book Title: Art, life and god

Author: Sean Landers

Price: not specified

The page was really simple which I think a lot of people may just pass it by without looking at it. The content pages are color photo copies of the notes from the author. The note are written on the note paper, that makes the content pretty interesting, it looks just like an notebook.

(6)   Book Title: The twin look alike

Author: Johan Deumens

Price: $ not specified and didn’t ask

The cover is kind of furry on the edges which makes it have the homemade feeling. As the title suggested, the spreads have the twins on each pages so we can see how similar they are.  It’s really fun to see those photos.

This fair is a lot smaller than the last one we went las t time. Which makes it weirder to just write down the information we need without having conversation with the person. And some person was standing upside down with a tag that says peace on his feet. There are some weird people, but overall is fun. The books they have are different than the last event, which can make me to have some inspiration for my future work.

Book for final project

I want to make a book for introducing illustration on a website. There is a Japanese website called “Pixiv,” it’s an online community for artists. There are more than one million users, therefore it has all kinds of different illustrations. I am friends with some of the famous members, so I think it would be a great idea to make a book of introducing their work. I do have some of the psd file from them so I can have a high resolution illustration for printing. For the cover I would like to use the Pixiv icon of people that I am going to introduce in the book. I am going to have the name Pixiv on the top and then manage the icons in the middle. Inside the book will be the illustration with the explanation, such as where does the character originally from or why does the illustrator draw his/her character. Also includes some brief introduction of the illustrator itself.  It’s the 2nd anniversary of the site right now, I think it’ll be a great idea to make this book to celebrate it.

Japanese style book

DSC00702

Inside the book there are five different type of recipes. All of the recipes are chose  from the top 10 of a cooking website. There are main dishes and of course included some desert. The reason I did a recipe book is that I happened to be doing a recipe related homework for another class and I thought it would become a book that is actually useful. There is only ten pages in the book, so it’s not as thick as the one we did in class, but still feels ok. The cover image was found on the internet, which I think is relatively cute so I used it as the cover.

NY ART BOOK FAIR

Don’t know if because I got there too late, there aren’t much people are looking at the books. They were watching performance or eating foods outside of the building. The place is really big and they do have a bunch of different kinds of publications. Those who are going through the books seem to be really interesting in what they have on hand. They were asking the author or people who are selling a lot of problems, and they were very happy to answer it. It’s kind of weird to just stand there and look over the books without saying anything or buying the book, but I still need to jet down the information of it.

(3)   Book Title: Rarely Seen Bad Jan Ader Film

It’s a huge stack of printed photo (not on the photo kind paper) stapled together. When flips it through it will become like a slow motion movie. It’s about a man on the bitch, I don’t really quite get the idea but it’s kind of fun.

Printed Matter Assignment

(1)  Name: Coffee Coffee

Author: Adam Saroyan

Price: $8

The book cover is all white and only has 2 words on it, which is the title “Coffee Coffee.” The binding method of this book is very simple, they only uses staples to stable it. The content is very unique as well. Same as the cover, all the pages in the book are all white. There is usually only one word on the pages but some times two or three same words lined up together. For example, lookout, bird, sleep and people. I can’t really see the connection within each words but it’s really unique.

(2)  Name: The Disaster of War

Author: Ann Messner

Price: $15

The form of the book is exactly same as regular news paper, which caught my eyes. There are pictures of soldiers, hostages and dying people from the previous wars. All the picture and articles are collected from different books, newspapers magazines, or website. The author is trying to let people know how scary and terrible the war is. This publication is really easy to read because of its newspaper form.

(3)  Name: Prisoner’s Inventions

Author: Temporary Service & Angelo

Price: not specified and didn’t ask the clerk

This publication is like folding an A4 paper from left to right and then up to down. It’s like a small flyer we can get from a supermarket. The content is very interesting; it’s about the inventions made by the prisoners. For example, some of them convert a simple battery become a cigarette lighter and self-made tattoo gun. It’s really fun to see how creative they are even though it’s really not a good idea for them to do all these things without any restrictions.

(4)  Name: Dictionary of Keywords

Author: Xu Tan

Price: $50

This publication has a thick green cover on it with spine and flaps. About the book itself, the binding method is the same as the regular text books. The book is written for educational purpose. It teaches people to pronounce some important and weird Chinese words. It has pinyin of the word as all the other Chinese learning books, but the interesting part is it has a sonogram so you can know better how to pronounce it. The problem is it’s somehow hard to understand so I don’t know if the sonogram is really useful.

(5)  Name: Lynn Valley #2 / Kleenex Mathematics

Author: Johannes Wohnseifer

Price: $34

The reason why I chose this book is because the cover. Its form is nothing special but the picture is quite unique. It’s a woman with makeup and wrapped with orange skins. Inside the book are unedited spam texts, blend autobiographic detail and dense visual puns with the poetics of strategically designed.

(6)  Name: We Are all College Volume 1

Author: Laura Foxman

Price: $20

The form of this one is really special; it’s like a 100cm long paper get folded every 5cm at the same direction and then become a book. Though the content is quite weird, it is composed with blurry wrestling picture or hand-draw chaos people, which are not so enjoyable.
