Yes, Book Arrived!!
The book I ordered from Blurb have arrived today—a day after the final…
The quality is very nice and i love it!!
I have ordered “softcover with normal paper version” and hard cover with premium paper”; I like the soft cover and normal paper better.
Since the book is relatively small 7″ by 7″, hard cover with premium paper is hard to open and not so easy to read; instead, normal paper is pretty good and softcover also has better quality and weight than normal pamphlets, and it is so easy to read and perfect for my book.
here is some of the photos.
Concept
For my final book project, I wanted to make a book for my mixtape.
By collecting photos I want to use, I organized the layout and come up with a idea to trim them and put them together like tiles, or bricks. Choosing black for the back ground enabled me to connect all the photos naturally. I used a straight brown line to give an idea of continuity and rhythm in this book. I think putting these elements are most important part to make this book connect to the Music I put—since color, rhythm, dynamics are the vital elements for Music.
To put my color into the book, I used my favorite baskerville and various type of brown. I used the variation of brown to put an order in each letters. Its not so recognizable, but I put brown line on the edge to indicate the biginning of new chapter.
Thanks,
Blurb!!

Organizing the contents.
Organizing various photo and presenting it in a neat way is the most challenging part for me.
Though, I think I found a good way to organize it. Since most of the photos are taken inside of the club and dark, I used black for the back ground, and trim and changed the size for all the photo. it looks better than before, and made me enable to show what I want to show and cut off what i dont need to show.
cover
I change the color of the cover.
All the content page’s background are black, so I wanted to use lighter color for the cover. I also think using lighter color will make it easy to find the book.finalCover
Cost for printing and binding.
I went to a copy shop called “Photo Imagintion Lab” on Park Ave, since Staples on Park Ave is gone.
The guy told me it will cost .75 cents for printing one side, and $1.50 for both side.
He said there’s no fix cost for trimming and folding, and depend on project, it will be free. For coil binding for 20 pages will cost $5, and he said trimming and folding is free with it. For the Staple bind, he said its the same. Though, I guess there is no fixed cost for all of these, so one have to negotiate with the guy in here every single time.
Idea for the book.
My main idea is to create a book for the CD.
I always listen to music when I am reading, so I believe its not so hard to create a book according to the music in the CD.
I will most likely to make a 1 hour long mix, and create a book which relate to the music and me playing music. I have many photo of me playing DJ, and I will probably add some photo which remind me of the music. I am not sure about what I will write on the book, but I would like to write my thoughts about the music, and introduction about the songs.
I would like to make many copies of this book, but I want to put hard cover and CD case build in it, so I have to figure out how I can accomplish this without paying too much for materials.
The sides of the book will be double the size of CD case, and if there is a way, I want to use japanese style 4 hole binding with a heavy cover.

Japanese style 4 hole binding Book
After making 2 book from see using plastic-ish cover, finally I made a well created one.
This time, I used photos taken by Shoko using Lomo, and each pages are folded by the edge.
I tried to be more precise on cutting, and the finish looks much better than the last ones. I also used brown thread to match with the cover print—in my opinion, its working perfect.
New Book.
I made a book with Japanese style 4 hole binding.
This time I include a blue plastic CD case inside of the book so that I can put a CD. I chose Sewn on the spine turn in since I wanted to show blue CD case a little bid from the spine. I chose Plastic-ish cover for the book, so I think this book have an interesting taste. I cut the zine made by art magazine, so the picture inside of the book is beautiful too.
