There are many artists that paint pictures depicting what they are feeling about a certain issue or something that their interested in. Painting is a way of expressing your self. It’s like writing a poem or a story or even a song. J.M.W Turner is a painter that uses his paintings to give a us a clue of how the past looked. He seemed to paint many pictures of old ships and environments that depict the past. There are many paintings that I found interesting and many other’s that I did not find so interesting.
There are many of Mr. Turners works that I liked a lot such as the painting called Fisher at Sea, What I liked about the painting was the fact that it looked like it was a photograph. Mr. Turner used dark colors to symbolize the night sky. What I found intriguing was the fact that the moon in the painting was so bright. As I looked at the painting at a distance it blurred my vision s if I was looking at a real moon. He did a good job in putting these different colors together to really symbolize the brightness of the moon. What I also liked about the painting was the night sky and the shadow of the moon glaring in the water. Also the boat was done with great detail, the colors of the boat were so real. This painting was the best out of all of his works that I looked at. Another painting that I found fascinating was the painting called Bomborough Castle. What I found fascinating was the great detail of the ocean colliding with the sand at shore. Also he great detail on the boat, castle and the environment. The people on the shore and on th boat look so realistic, it felt as if im looking at real people at a distance. What I like about Turner’s paintings is the fact that he tries to tell us a story. It seems as if he’s painting a picture and also writing a story at the same time.
One of the paintings that I did not find interesting was the painting called The burning of the house of parliament. What I don’t like about this paintings is that it seems that Turner just threw around paint in order to depict something burning. It didn’t have any detail in this paintings. This painting was not his best. It seemed that he didn’t put so much effort into this painting as he did on the previous paintings that I have mentioned. What I did like about this painting is that he did do a good job in mixing different paint colors to show fire. It really did look like something was burning.
Another painting that I found amazing is called Childe Harolds Pilgrimage, which was a beautiful environment with trees, people and marble columns. It seemed as if you were in that environment looking at a distance. He used natural colors to paint this painting.
What I find a lot of in Turners paintings is that he uses a lot of boats and water to do his paintings. Based on his paintings I can conclude that he loved to travel and explore new places. What I also get from his paintings is that he loved the open air because all of his paintings were outside, I did not see any paintings that were inside.
j.M.W Turner is a painter that shows all of his interests in his paintings. He tells a different story with each of his paintings.We each know that painters have different stories to tell in their paintings. Expressing ourselves through painting has been around since humanity started. Paintings will never get old but it’s still evolving because now art can be expressed by different materials that we wouldn’t think would be possible to do it with. Art is a way of expressing our elves and we should all take advantage of it.
