Third Review

For my third review I visited The Museum of Modern Art, which was founded in 1929 as an educational institution. The contents in this museum are to allow people to enjoy and understand both the modern and contemporary art. My visit to the MoMA I found that I really enjoyed some of the paintings and the contemporary art pieces.
A painting that I really liked is The Park (1910) oil on canvas by Gustav Klimt. I like this painting a lot because it is made up of many small dabs in different shades of green paint. When looked at from up close the dabs of green paint looks like a blob of green dots filling a rectangular frame, which was hard to tell what the painting might be. When I took a couple of steps back I realized that this painting consisted of many green dots composited together to create the idea of leaves in a dense forest area. I felt that the top of the painting is very heavy, but it works at the same time because that is how trees are when grown closely together. At the bottom of the painting the backlight allows the small shrubs and tree trunks to be visible. I feel that this painting does not have that much to it, but at the same time it does contain a lot due to hundreds of green dots building up the painting.
Another piece that I really found fascinating is Man with Yellow Pants (1964) paper, oil, and pencil on polished stainless steel by Michelangelo Pistoletto. I am fascinated by this piece because when I stood in front of it the life size figure, it looks like a real person is standing there. Also, the framing of the stainless steel canvas makes the figure look like he is standing between a doorway and giving the effect that one can walk through this canvas and onto the other side. I like how the artist drew the figure that only shows one quarter of his face, which creates a mysterious image of this man. You do not know anything about him except that he’s wearing yellow pants. When I stood in front of this life size figure drawing I felt like I am waiting online behind him to enter into a different realm. I felt that I do not know whom the person with his back to me is and that if someone were to stand behind me he or she would probably feel the same way about me.
Every time I visit the MoMA I really enjoy spending hours looking at all the contemporary arts showcased in the exhibit. It is very different than just looking at paintings after paintings and sculptures after sculptures. On the other hand at MoMA the paintings are on an abstract level and the sculptures and figures has a very modernity feel to it instead of a historical feel. Although the two pieces that I like from the exhibit showcased at MoMA are both paintings on different types of canvas and the concept is quite different, but I feel there are similarities and differences between the two. The similarities between these two pieces is they seem very mysterious, where the viewer wants to know more of what is beyond the dense trees or where will the wait behind the man lead to. The difference between the two pieces is that The Park painting is quite busy because the viewer cannot see through the dense trees and there is nowhere for the eyes to rest, but for The Man with Yellow Pants it creates more white space around the figure giving the eyes room to breathe. The two pieces that I chose both can be viewed differently or similarly depending on the viewer, but I found that both pieces work very well on its own.
