Individual Portfolios

For Wednesday Nov. 12 write a 1-2 page description of what you plan to do for your individual portfolio. I’m interested in:

  • a description of what you will do (what will the images be? How will they be created? How will they be made visible to the rest of us?);
  • some insight into why you care about making the pictures;
  • some insight into why you think someone else might want to look at your pictures.

In terms of the portfolio itself, you must meet these basic criteria:

  • at least five images that relate to each other in some thoughtful, compelling, or amusing way
  • images created at high resolution (Minimum 240 pixels per inch at the design size; so if you’re planning to print 11×17 inches, for instance, you would need 2640×4080 pixels – or if you’re planning to print 8×10 inches you would need 1920×2400 pixels. You choose the design size. If you don’t know what size to work at, work at a minimum of 8×10 inches. You can always print it smaller but printing it larger is not always possible. Even if your final result is not planned for printing, you want to work in high resolution in the event you did want to print at some future time.)
  • demonstrated technical achievement
  • demonstrated attention to visual composition, color, and pictorial space
  • comprehensive concept and vision for pictures as both individual images and as a series.

As usual your work will be evaluated based on achievement of technical and creative concepts, thoughtfulness, attention to detail, effort, and originality of approach.

Plan to create at least one picture per week for the rest of the semester. Or, start on all of them, and then refine as you go forward. If you wait until the end and rush to get the work done, you will be very very very sad about your grade.

Your individual portfolio counts as 40% of your semester grade.

MOMA

The Modem museum of art has many excellent exhibitions with artist from around the world. Although the museum has very contemporary, bizarre and remarkable collections, I appraised my review into the two of the bigger leaders in Art, that in some way helped with the creation of the modern art and thanks to its abilities and talents, now we can count with a new variety of artist with astonish concepts and styles. MOMA had arrived this fall with a sub-realistic collection from Picasso and a sentimental and colorful collection from Van Gogh called “The Colors of the Night”. Both collections represents the best from the Cubism and the Expressionism eras.

Wunderkammer: A Century of Curiosities

“Wunderkammer: A Century of Curiosities” in the Museum of Modern Art is an exhibit displaying a vast variety of strange, and exotic works of art. From images of eggs with eyes to locust tanks, Wunderkammer is guaranteed to have something that will either freak you out or inspire you. The exhibit, full of various oddities and wonders, is somewhat reminiscent of the old time “freak shows” that P. T. Barnum was famous for promoting. The assortment of images varies from photographs to paintings to simple sketches.
