“Cause I’m a Man,”, is a question as well as a statement as It emphasizes how men are expected by society to uphold a particular definition of masculinity. One interpretation of the line, “Because I’m a man,” is that it serves as a justification or an explanation for his actions, suggesting that his gender influences them. The song also implies that there is room for a more vulnerable and real presentation of masculinity and that such justifications aren’t always necessary.

The line “Not Often Proud of what I choose” perfectly illustrates what Tame Impala was trying to represent in this song as it shows how some men are living lives they aren’t truly supportive of due to the fact of generational masculinity that has been passed down through generations. An example of this is shown in the music video as the character’s wedding fails which leads him to feel lost and indulge in drugs, alcohol sexual activities for gratification (2:00). The line Implies that there is a cycle that some men always go through which eventually leads to self-judgement through the lines “I am aware I’m not in control”.

Although Tame Impala perfectly encapsulates the struggles men have to go through due to the generational spread of masculinity, it does however include the depression men may gain from it as shown by the line “I’ll never be as strong as you”. This line suggests a sense of inadequacy or vulnerability compared to someone else possibly being a romantic partner.
