Al-Shaima Akram Saidam was the name of a palestinian girl who had big hopes and dreams to become a translator, she went above and beyond in school, she even had a 99.6 in school examinations. But all those dreams and goals she had were all taken away in the matter of seconds just like the millions of other palestine victims. We want to memorialize Al-Shaima Akram Saidam alongside the rest of the victims that were killed in the refugees and within palestine on October 15 through a mural and alongside it a plaque, with names of the victims.
In current times around the world there is war going on between Israel and Palestine. The people of Palestine and Israel are suffering everyday due to bombings and shootings and it is killing thousands and thousands of people everyday causing a mass genocide to the people of palestine. We are making this memorial not only for Shaimaa but for the people in Palestine all together so they are all being heard and seen. This is to make more people aware of the situation and to understand that what is happening right now in Palestine is a mass genocide and it needs to be stopped before it get any worse than it already is.
A contemporary mural at the entrance of the park representing Al Shaima along with Palestinians standing with her, following with a plaque giving insight about what she accomplished. A contemporary mural is visual oriented, colors will be vibrant and touching to the viewer. In this way it can easily draw in public view. The action that’s being displayed to represent her scholarly devotion is Al Shaima holding her diploma with the names of the students who died at that university and who were at the refugee camp. Having the names listed will leverage people inward, to look closely and get more familiar with the mural. While it’s allowing them to familiarize with the art, it also stimulates awareness about the genocide happening in Gaza, This mural is for the deceased in Gaza, the survivors in Gaza, families who are palestinian refugees, people who know of palestinians, and overall everybodywho deserves to know about the genocide happening in Gaza.
Memorializing Al-Shaima Akram Saidam will not only give us an opportunity to remember what she was known for but she will be an example to others who have the same dreams and aspirations. Even the small things should be remembered because small things can have big effects on people. October 7th was not an easy day for anyone and we could acknowledge this by memorializing Al-Shaima Akram Saidam. It gives people the opportunity to feel the pain of others and understand that they are not alone.
These are scenes from journalists and reporters who were killed in the Palestine war. A total of 41 journalists have been killed and so far “36 journalists already killed by Israeli strikes in Gaza” within 31 days of war.
Wael Al-Dahdouh is a palestinian journalist who lost 4 family members in the bombing of Gaza. He continues to report the tragedies and speak out about what’s really happening in Palestine. It reminds many of a previous journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, who was also killed by Israeli soldiers a year prior to the recent attacks.

This was a very inspirational and unique tribute to Al-Shaima Akram Saidam and it reminds me of the story of Malala Yousafzai.
This is a great memorial to add to MSP. We need to bring more attention to what is happening in Palestine.
This is a great memorial. Not everyone is talking about the issues that are gong on the in the Middle East. Having this in MSP, would allow individuals to learn more about the topic.
