Reflecting

Over the past 3 months, I feel as though my writing itself hasn’t changed much but the way I think about certain things definitely has changed. For example, I find myself being a lot more analytical about my own writing, in the sense that I think more about the meaning behind what I am writing. At the beginning of the semester, one of my goals was to learn how to create dialogue in a more interesting way. Admittedly since we didn’t write any actual stories, I did not develop these skills in the way I wanted, but they did improve in other ways. I find myself now writing as if I am talking to someone, the words I choose reflect how I would speak, the little bits of sarcasm reflect my own thought process, which is. If everyone’s writing sounds robotic, I find that quite boring.

I would the essay I’m most proud of and had the most fun writing was the narrative, as I was truly able to put myself on paper. What I find most fun about that one was the amount of creative freedom we got. The goal was to write an essay about ourselves, and to add restrictions to that would pretty much defeat the purpose of the essay. On the other hand, the one I found the most tedious was the rhetorical film analysis. The good thing was that we got to choose the film, I chose Rise of the planet of the apes, but having to analyze the film was a bit of a challenge. Overall, that essay was also quite enjoyable to write.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this class. I always felt like I could speak my mind, to a reasonable extent obviously. The assignments were interesting and engaging, and I very much had fun in this class, which is what really matters with anything you like. As long as your having fun, nothing else matters.
