What does Thanksgiving mean?

The 2018 article “the First Thanksgiving” by Nicole Daniels, is an article I found to relate to the most due to how my family also adds Arab food to our thanksgiving meals. Also I found the part with having thanksgiving with immigrant parents and a lot of the cultural similarities that I connected to. Thanksgiving makes me feel thrilled because I enjoy not only the food but the gathering of family members. My family would usually the game “headbanz” with each other and bond even after food which is also something I enjoy about this holiday. The articles encompass the breadth of Thanksgiving experiences due to how they discuss subjects such as cultural impact on thanksgiving for example. I find it not only relatable to myself but also to other people when they speak of how their family implies food from their own cultures into the dinner. For example my Italian American friend has baked zitti as one of the dishes being served during his Thanksgiving dinner. Another story I found that I believe is Important to tell is “Turn off your phone for Thanksgiving” by David Leonhardt. This article is important due to how this is a generation where everyone on the dinner table has a phone and I noticed how much more everyone seems to use their phone on the dinner table as I got older.

To me Thanksgiving is a holiday of family and gathering. This is due to how for my family’s Thanksgiving dinner everyone in the family all comes to one house after months and even a year to one of our houses and its a holiday where even family members who have their differences with each other put their problems aside to have a nice dinner with everyone else. To me its a holiday where family members can just sit down catch up and have a fun dinner after not seeing each other for a long time. This gathering of family is my favorite part of the holiday and what really defines it to me. I believe this doesn’t just go for me but to other families as well because of how this is a key aspect of the holiday of Thanksgiving. Although this is what I believe to be the main idea of the holiday and what defines it some may argue that food is what makes the holiday what is. Me and my family usually have a tradition of playing “headbanz” the game after dinner. This is a tradition my aunt started and something I would like to continue through out the years to come and in the future.
