Final Project

Entering this class at the beginning if the semester was like a new job sort of in a way. I really didn’t know what to expect but looking back I always enjoyed sitting down and learning about different ways of writing. I would say my writing did develop maybe not majorly but it improved moderately. I’m more comfortable in writing argumentative and rhetorical papers now than I was before because not only did Professor Perry provide us with samples but she really took the time to gives us readings and articles about how to write a truthful paper. In one of our first classes I wrote some goals for my writing that I wanted to accomplish, and some were met, and others are still a work in progress. One of my goals was to build my vocabulary and as time went by the vocabulary sheets we did on the spread sheet as a class really did help me because I would only focus on 2-3 words at a time and was able to find meanings and examples. I really only learn by seeing examples which this class was really helpful with and that’s something I appreciated from this class.

One piece in particular that I was proud of was my rhetorical paper that we did on film. I enjoyed the process of watching and analyzing the film in all forms from background sounds to non-intentional meanings of certain factors in the movie. My film of choice was quite hard to choose because I couldn’t come up with a film that could work for my theory that I first intended to use. The moment I found my film and watched it twice, I started typing away about it because it was a perfect movie to talk about the critical disability theory. I was proud of this piece because even though I struggled to start my paper, I was able to figure out. Plan that worked for me and brought an excellent final result. Some insights that I have gained from writing that paper is to not be scared to use your resources but to not take an advantage of what is given because then in reality you’re taking everyone’s ideas and just bunching them together to one. The statement “quality over quantity” was something I also thought about while writing my paper and it helped me because I didn’t write too much but didn’t write too little without having to drag it out to meet the word count.

Out of all my writing pieces, the one that was a little more complicated was the literacy narrative. My challenges that I came across was trying to perfect it as it was my first piece in this class. Also, I didn’t know how to go about his piece, I didn’t know if I wanted to get personal or give an ordinary story that didn’t have any meaning behind it. I ended up opening on my narrative, but I struggled to organize it in a way that my piece would flow smoothly. After I ended up fixing the format with a technique my professor taught us which helped with a brand-new format. If I were to read it over again today, I would be surprised to see that my narrative was great which in reality it really wasn’t there was no organization in my opinion, but I would be able to rewrite it and make it ten times better.

Overall, ENG 2100 with Professor Perry was I would say the perfect class to start off this semester with because she explained every step to a perfect piece, and we just needed to put our thoughts in words on paper. The writing prompts at the beginning of class helped me majorly because now as I write more papers, I am able to concentrate more than before and don’t distract myself as much anymore. I definitely recommend this class to anyone who wants to improve their writing skills without being judged by someone when your vulnerable on a writing piece.
