Narrative of Metacognition

In Asimov’s essay, he explores what intelligence truly entails, and figures out that putting a measure on one’s intelligence is extremely hard because one person may know more about one topic than another person does. Asimov explains things by talking about his auto repair man and how if he had made a test for Asimov then Asimov wouldn’t do very well in it because he wouldn’t have knowledge of things like cars. I somewhat agree with Asimov’s definition that intelligence is not the same from person to person, it depends on the person’s interest and the ways they gather this knowledge. I also think that it is important to note that intelligence is not something that is set in stone, but something that can change and improve. Similarly to what I mentioned prior strengths, interests and talents are important factors of intelligence. Personally, I think a strength I have is that when I pick something up like an assignment I am determined to finish it. Some things that interest me are sports(mainly soccer) and traveling/seeing new things. Lastly, I think that a talent I possess is being adaptable which means I don’t get frustrated when things don’t go exactly how they should.

After completing the intelligence quiz I was given that my top three results were Intrapersonal which means I can distinguish amongst my own feelings, tied with intrapersonal I had Interpersonal which means I can recognize and understand other people and lastly in third, I got visual/spatial which means I am able to perceive visual and spatial information. I found these results interesting because I never really thought of myself as a primarily visual learner, but I do think that I excel when I am able to see how things are done and am given examples. For example in math which is a subject I tend to do well in, I benefit from seeing how to solve things and then taking that and applying it to my own work. I think being interpersonal does go with my strengths because I know my capabilities so I am able to be determined to do something I truly know I can complete. Additionally, I think being interpersonal goes with my interest in playing sports especially, team ones because it means I can understand others making it easier to collaborate with them.

  1. I think your response to Isaac’s intelligence is very well thought out, and it is truly what it entails, as sometimes it really depends on the person’s interest and the ways they gather this knowledge. It’s really cool that I shared the same intelligence type as you, as I feel that your strengths are very similar to mine.

  2. I also said the same thing about the interpersonal intelligence type. When it comes to sports you have to be able to effectively communicate with your teammates and understand where everyone is coming from. That is the only way to succeed and strive in sports.

  3. I agree that interests are an essential factor in intelligence. In my personal experience, I usually don’t do well in subjects I’m not interested in. For example, I am not the biggest fan of reading books and sometimes I read the book without understanding it. However, if the author starts talking about computers in his book, I’ll be at my best attention.
