In Asimov’s essay he uses several anecdotes to help support his definition of intelligence. He believes Intelligence is subjective, that intelligence shouldn’t be proven using typical academic questions. Intelligence, according to him, can mean being skilled/knowledgeable in any type of situation (handy work, plumbing, cleaning). My definition of intelligence is similar to Asimov. I too believe intelligence is subjective. To me, having knowledge about a certain topic/procedure can be defined as intelligence. Now, if my intelligence were to be questioned by Asimov, he would say that I have a strong “intelligence” in the movie/music field. Music and movies are a very strong passion of mine. I love watching video essays about different bands and reading commentary on movies. I have a lot of opinions and know a good amount regarding these two industries.
The Multiple intelligence survey is a series of questions deigned to give you your top 3 intelligence types. My no. 1 rank is Visual/Spacial while no.2 & 3 were intra and interpersonal. I think having visual/spacial intelligence is very accurate in regards to my personality. Growing up my imagination was always very active and I don’t believe I ever grew out of it. Visualizing pictures and audios never come as a struggle. When I was younger I was able to play the Princess and the Frog movie in my head. I played the movie so much I had it memorized and always “watched” my favorite parts. I genuinely did not think the survey was going to have a result regarding visual intelligence. It actually shocked me how accurate it was. Even if we disregard my interest of movies/music, we can pin this intelligence type to my love of art. I love making new pieces (even if they might not turn out the best) and sketching rough ideas. This survey might have been inaccurate with the intrapersonal result but they were spot on with no. 1.
It is intriguing to see how your visual intelligence impacts your life and interests. It is so cool that you’re interested in movies and bands.
