Three Passions Essay

A life without passions seems bleak. What would you live for? Would you even be happy? I strive to explore my passions of movement, exploration, and relaxation, to ensure that my life will not be bleak, but happy and fulfilling.

My journey with movement has not been an easy one. As a child, my passion was dance. The art of moving to the beat of the music, letting go of the stresses of the day in the dim lit dance studio. Only you and the music are there, everyone else is gone, and you can finally let yourself breathe. After I quit dancing, I lost my movement for a while. Time always has a way of things and eventually I found my movement again in a different way. Now, I try to incorporate walks around my neighborhood or in the city, going to the gym a few times a way, and occasionally going back to my love for dancing.

I want to explore the world. I want to see the Earth that I inhabit for what it is. Currently, I cannot get on a one-way flight out of the country and not look back, but I make the best of my situation and explore the city. Specifically, the food. I absolutely love trying foods from different cultures and I have a goal to try food from every country in the world. I believe that everyone should be more open minding about exploring as it brings all of us closer together.

Of course, with all this activity, relaxation is a priority. My mind needs a break from the chaotic and overly stimulating society we live in. I always try to make time for myself to rest, practice my hobbies, do self-care, anything that will let me recharge. Everyone should try and make this a passion.

I live with my passions in hand. They are a part of me, my life, my being. I will not allow myself to live a life without passion to create a fulfilling one.

  1. Hi Salma. Your passions really spoke out to me because of the relatability to wanting to be relaxed. Coming from someone that lived in NYC his whole life, I know chaos when I see it. It’s healthy for people like us to find things that we can do to preserve our mental health.

  2. I absolutely agree with your line “a life without passion seems bleak.” I would also love to hop on a one way flight right now but my other commitments here are stopping me from doing so.
