The film I chose to watch was ‘The Man Who Armed the Panthers.” I learned that Richard Aoki was a prominent activist. He was also known for being the one who gave the Black Panthers guns and provided them with weapon training. Aoki was part of a gang and later on joined the army. It was said that he worked for the FBI and was an informant. What was interesting to me was how the film mentioned that Aoki was able to be a part of the Black Panthers because he knew the leaders. Something that stood out to me the most was the way Aoki denied that he worked with the FBI. I felt like the film was really interesting and I liked how it ended with Aoki saying himself that he didn’t work with the FBI.

This sounds really interesting, I feel like every member of the Black Panther Party has their own interesting story and something unique that makes them stand out from everyone else.
I think it’s fascinating that Aoki was on both sides of the conflict. Did the FBI use Aoki to get insider information on the Panthers? This man seems suspicious because it seems like he was a spy. I also wonder why Aoki would deny working for the FBI. Maybe he favored the Black Panthers over the FBI. Overall, Aoki has an interesting connection to the Black Panther Party.
I also chose this video, and found learning about aoki to be very interesting. I found it to be really crazy how the FBI had informants inside of the BPP, especially when Aoki played a big role for the BPP, since he was their arms dealer, and he was close with the leaders.
Oh wow. I think I may go back to watch this video about Aoki. I was wondering how they were able to get all these weapons and none of the videos I watched mention it. I would really hope that he wasn’t informing the FBI about the party but I’ve seen a few people discuss how suspicious he appeared to be. It’s so unfortunate that all we can do at this point is speculate a lot of what has happened during this time. So many secrets went with the lives lost during this time.
