The video that I chose was “The Black Panther in Prison after 46 years” this doc talked about how a 19 year old got put in prison for killing 2 police officers in Harlem. His name is Jalil Muntaqim and initially claimed innocence but in the recent parole hearings, he has admitted involvement in the crime. The doc didn’t talk about how one of the police officers were white and the other was black but only talked about the officer that was white which I found very interesting. Jalil Muntaqim joined the black liberation army, a wing which was a part of the Black Panther party. The army carried out bombings, killing of police officers and prison breaks. Jalil was finally released in October of 2020 after 46 years of being in prison and was released on parole.

This is a sad story yet I find it sufficient given the crimes Jalil confessed to. I do agree that it is strange that only the white cop was spoken about. To me, this sounds like they are trying to portray the Black Panthers as violent toward white people. I believe that being a part of what sounds like the violent sector of the Black Panthers didn’t help Jalil’s 46-year prison sentence for murders that he admitted to committing.
I had chosen the same video and I found that it was astounding that they painted a violent image in which the African Americans and along with the Black Panthers were all in the wrong. They had also specifically ignored the black cop that was also a victim and displayed the problem as a black man attacking a white cope out of heretics.
