Day 1:
> I was able create a wiki account
> I Went through and finished the Wiki adventure. When I started, It was a bit broken and janky through at times and because of this I thought my laptop was bugging not going to lie. But at least I learned some basics of Wiki editing.
Day 2:
> I decided on my women in red- Vivian Ramón Pita (Cuban chess player)
>How you decided on your Woman in Red :i decided on my women “Vivian Ramón Pita” because for me personally I have a decent understanding of the men’s chess world as being the most prominent, yet I didn’t really know the women’s chess scene so I decided it would be interesting to understand the Women’s scene of chess. However, I chose my women in specific as it was interesting to find a woman that plays chess from Latin America as it is considered one of the weakest in the world of chess, along with her title of become Cuba’s 1st women’s grandmaster in chess.
DAY 3:
> I did a comparison on 2 chess players, one male/one female, being the game of chess in the competitive scene is heavily male dominated. In which I compared Judit Polgár’s (Women) wiki discussion page and compared it to Garry Kasparov’s (Man) wiki discussion page.
Which in Judit Polgár’s (arguably considered the best female chess player) certain sections of the discussion regarding her championships and controversies came down to trying to take away certain claims that she had made being after beating Garry Kasparov in a chess game and the overall tone of dome users trying to question and being critical of the overall impact of her championships and presence in the chess scene, kind of downplaying a little her impact in chess. Along with a large discussion revolving around a controversy with Garry Kasparov with many users on Garry’s side of the controversy.
However, with Garry Kasparov’s (arguably considered the best male chess player) wiki discussion page besides a super specific critical discussion of a certain part of his page that had a glaring error. Overall, it didn’t have almost any issues, inaccuracies, or barely controversial or critical conversations as Judit Polgár’s discussion page had.
DAY 4:
> Today was starting to more deeply research beyond the basic definition of who “Vivian Ramón Pita”
> Where do you go to begin doing your research?: When deciding on where to go when trying to research I firstly went to FIDE as Vivian Ramón Pita being a woman who is technically considered a women’s Grandmaster she is would have an accessible page on FIDE being the kind of like the chess corporation to find games and details regarding someone in the chess world.
Day 5:
> What kind of results did your initial research yielded?: In regard to what I had found from FIDE was mainly lots of technical stuff based on her entire chess career which is extremely helpful when trying to get data on her competitions, trophies, achievement, Losses, W/L ratio and her activity recently on a top competitive level. However, it wasn’t what I needed in regard to biographical life and personal life of her, but it was an extremely important find from the FIDE international chess federation website.
DAY 6:
> Today I continued to do some more research and found new articles regarding Vivian Ramón Pita and trying to understand her background.
> What your secondary efforts at research were (where you went next): As for my secondary efforts seeing that my person was from Cuba, I decided to look up any possible Spanish articles (there was barely anything not statistical wise regarding her in English) revolving around her on a more biographical standpoint. Which helped me get a decent amount of background articles and talks revolving around her.
> What discoveries you made along the way: Along the way of doing some research I learned a lot about Vivian Ramón Pita and her overall importance being the 1st Cuban female grandmaster when she was highly active in the competitive scene of chess. As well as finding an interview that was done on her regarding her background into how she got into chess. Along with understanding how chess got to Cuba and its influence there and its ultimate spread across Latin America.
Day 7:
> Today was more or less going through learning and getting better on how to edit on Wikipedia and understanding how to add references and trying out the sandbox mode on Wiki. At first it can be a bit tricky so I went to look at some tutorials on how to edit and write a wiki page which definitely cleared up some things. It was just me messing with the sandbox editor wiki has and trying to format the Wiki page regarding my person. As well as some minor practices on wiki pages on trying editing mode.
I found it interesting to see you comparing two chess players. I used to play chess too and to think of it i never seen much chess players that are women.
I admire how you chose a Latin woman that excelled in a generally male dominated field
I love how you organized your log and used cool bullet points, and that the woman in red you chose was very unique.
I agree with the adventure game being broken; I couldn’t even continue the game because the buttons wouldn’t work.
