Day 1: I First day in wikipedia and I started by making an account. I took time coming up with a username. It seems hard to navigate wikipedia.
Day 2: I completed the Wikipedia Adventure Game. I see how the Wikipedia Adventure was helpful to know how to edit other people’s articles. It was confusing at first but then i got the hang of it.
Day 3: The first article that I read was about Sabrina Ionescu. She is a famous basketball player in the WNBA right now. One thing that stood out to me was there were some conversations about how good she is for being a “girl”. There were pretty a few biases comments, i think it is because of her last basketball shooting match with Stephen Curry (a famous basketball player).
Day 4: The next article I read was about Stephen Curry. Stephen Curry is also a famous basketball player. Some argued that he is one of the best player. His article had way more words than Sabrina. There was not much hate to Stephen compare to Sabrina. They are both consider the “best shooters” for their gender.
Day 5: Today I looked through the Red List. I was thinking on who to conduct the research on. I was shock by how long the list was.
Day 6: I choose Agogo Florence Awhobiwom to research about. She is the founder of Florence Agogo Foundation (FAF), the CEO of Felicidade Mart in Calabar and a former vice president of the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN). She has a wikipedia page.
Day 7: With additional research, I learned Agogo Florence as the figure I’ll research, I began reviewing who she was. I learned that she was a humanitarian, philanthropist, and an entrepreneur. She is an outstanding Law student and a humanitarian with undying passion and enthusiasm for leadership, service, and human capacity development.
Quite interesting regarding the comparison between Sabrina Ionescu and Stephen curry, as both are exceptionally amazing shooters at basketball. However, Sabrina is always looked down on because of the Bad rep the WNBA has been getting. Which that bias even follows into their wiki page is wild.
I like how you looked at many different articles including basketball players.
I think we all had a similar struggle with the wiki game at first. It is definitely a bit intimidating approaching the website to write your own article. Both women mentioned in this journal log seem pretty amazing. The part about Subrina the WNBA player is like a double sided cool. Her having the amazing capabilities is beautiful, the “good for a girl” comment is just so annoying.
I’m surprised you were able to do the adventure game because it wouldn’t let me do it
