Wiki Journal

Day 1:

Under the “Talk” category in Gender bias on Wikipedia, several people pointed out that sources in the article are outdated or too old and they should replace it with newer sources. Additionally, a person brought to attention that the article needs more emphasis on biographical articles since it mainly includes data and raw counts.

Day 2:

I completed mission 1 and 2 of the Wikipedia Adventure Game. For mission 1, I created my Wikipedia account and logged two. For mission 2, I was able to explore the “Talk” option. I explored Wikipedia:Teahouse Talk page and read other users’ comments.

Day 3:

For day 3, I completed mission 3 of the Wikipedia Adventure Game. I explored the editing feature of Wikipedia, and corrected the grammar. I was able to change the grammar mistakes “thurd” to “third”, “fore” to “four”, “tree” to “three”, and lastly “hughmans” to “humans”. I published these changes.

Day 4:

I started mission 4 and explored the history section of the Earth page. I was able to see a list of all my revisions and the date. I saw my username as well as the time next to it.

Day 5: I finished the rest of the missions 5,6, and 7. These missions helped me further explore the Talk and History feature of Wikipedia. I was able to add GaiaGirl 86 source from the Talk section into the Earth article.

Day 5:

I began to brainstorm ideas on who to compare (biography of a man and women). I chose to compare Kobe Bryant and Audrey Hepburn, who are both celebrities that passed away. Immediately I noticed key differences like how Kobe Bryant’s biography was written in  “American” English while Audrey Hepburn’s biography was written in “British” English. So in Hepburn’s autographs words like color was spelt like colour and traveled was spelt like travelled.

Day 5:

Today I decided to check the Talk section of Kobe Bryant and Audrey Hepburn’s biography. I noticed that Kobe Bryant had a Talk section but Audrey Hepburn didn’t. This was weird to me because it said the Audrey Hepburn bibliography was nominated for deletion and the discussion was closed on March 13, 2019.

Day 6:

Since I could not compare the Talk section of Audrey Hepburn and Kobe Bryant, I chose to compare Coco Chanel instead. In Kobe Bryant’s biogpragy talk section, a person spoke on the wording of Bryant’s response to a sexual assault allegation. However, in Coco Chanel’s biography it brought up information that wasn’t talked about like “Coco” nickname or her designing the nazi uniform.

Day 7:

I noticed there was a lot more confusion and needing to clarify information for Coco Chanel because there aren’t a lot of resources on specific information. This might be because Coco Chanel died in 1971, so there isn’t a lot of information because technology back then wasn’t as advanced as today.
