What elective do you wish your school offered?

The question I chose was what elective do you wish your school offered. In the article we learn about a school in Missouri that teaches students about how to process livestock from the farm to their kitchen table. The students would skin the animal and remove all their organs, then process them into the different kinds of cuts you can get from them and finally cook the meat into different types of meals. I think I would take this class because it’d be interesting to learn where the food we eat comes from and how it’s made.

One elective I wish my school offered is metal shop. It would basically be like wood-shop but you would be working with metal instead. I hope students could learn how to work with metal so they could fix things that broke or make something useful. It’s also a useful skill for students to have that could maybe become a profession for them in the future.

The best elective class I’ve taken is probably an AP Computer Science class in high school. I learned some basics for coding on a website called Snap. I also learned different ways to approach the code to get the end result the way I wanted.

I think electives are important for schools to have because it’s a change of pace from all the normal classes we take every year like math and science. It’s also something that can introduce new topics to students that’s they probably wouldn’t have learned on their own time or even heard of. It could teach students new skills to use in life

  1. I agree, a metal shop will be helpful in teaching students how to fix things. I wish my school had a cooking or baking elective because I can’t really cook and I wish there would be a class to teach us how to.

  2. I completely agree; electives are definitely important and may contribute to learning intriguing subjects or essential life skills. I realized after high school that electives help some students determine their future professions.  I noticed that there were some kids in my school that chose to major in computer science in college after taking AP Comp Sci.
