Written Reflection

For my Project 3, I remixed Project 1 into a slideshow. I chose to make a slideshow with images because by using different sorts of pictures, giving context, and explaining the importance of the pictures, I was able to get the message of the initial Project 1 was about through a different medium. The rhetoric is significant in this project to help convey your message creatively. The importance of rhetoric was key in my project because I spoke on how rhetoric used by the Black Panther Party and Black Lives Matter movement was critical in creating shifts in their movements and impacts on culture. The info and pictures I chose helped show this. Most of the information and my images came from articles I used within my first Project since they tied really well into my slideshow.

Utilizing a multimedia format can be more appealing to individuals who don’t enjoy reading. Not only that, getting a message across is through more than one way can help portray it in a better light. It also allows us to be more creative and imaginative with what we can do. A slideshow can have pictures, videos information, etc. Other formats like podcasts can utilize the power of a voice that holds emotion or a story where the sky is the limit for a creative mind.

One constraint I had was spacing. I wanted to fit the pictures, context/credits, and information all in one slide. Trying to do this led to spacing issues. I had to balance out having one to two images per slide with one paragraph of info on each slide and squeeze in context and credits. I didn’t want to have too much pictures/info on one aspect of culture and not the other so this also was difficult when trying to balance everything out.

Sharing my work beyond a classroom is helpful to reach people who aren’t very educated about Black history. Most of these things are only taught in school and only recently. Work like mine and others similar can help spread a positive message to show how we can make change and help marginalized voices prosper. Raising awareness is key to make a difference.
