Wikipedia Journal

Day 1

Made an account was pretty simple as I didn’t even need to give them an email or phone number didn’t do much else.

Day 2

I just checked around the website and looked around at the different articles. I was also seeing what difference it made having an account since when I never really found the need to make an account.

Day 3

I noticed that I could literally edit any Wikipedia page. Sure people will come by and correct the pages for incorrect info but now I understood why this can’t be a quotable source of information in my essays.

Day 4

It was time to get some actual work done so I decided to look into the red list provided and it amazed me that only 20% of English Wikipedia articles were about women. I hovered over a few of them to get a general idea of who I wanted to research.

Day 5

I randomly selected a women named Nellie Bly for my research.

Day 6

I found out that Nellie Bly is really her pen name and her real name was Elizabeth Jane Cochrane. She was a journalist who turned famous for going undercover into a mental hospital to get the first hand experience of a mental health patient.

Day 7

I did more research into Nellie Bly and found out that she did not only go undercover but she faked insanity and by doing so exposed the abuse and neglect patients got in these “mental health facilities”.
